Up to now, only a few studies with a small number of patients have been carried out to show that the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with contrast medium is capable of detecting chronic pulmonary artery embolisms and that pulmonary hypertension can be detected using functional cardiac MRI. Based on the current study status, however, it can be presumed that the MRI is capable of this and can achieve equally good results in the diagnosis of CTEPH as the lung perfusion scintigraphy.
